Sonny goes to the altar at ten, but is led astray by country music. He succeeds, elopes with Mary and joins the Navy in World War II. He and his group hit it right in New York and Chicago, where they play for nationwide radio. But he drinks too much. A salesman comes to his house and offers to pray for Sonny who continues to run from God. One day he is unable to sing and begins to shake. He promises God he’ll do anything. Unable to even drink, he confides in a Bible-reading girl at the Chicago bus depot. Then he gets on the wrong bus and has to walk three miles in sleet. He cries out to God, is saved and becomes an evangelist. He counsels Laura Swaringim.
