Tom serves as a missionary in the Philippines where he meets Caroline. They marry, but when they adopt two children, their mission drops them. For 25 years they live in the U.S., serving in spite of illness and setback. They return to the Philippines to serve, but more illness interferes. When Communism falls in Eastern Europe, Tom returns to Czechoslovakia where he obtains citizenship, serves as a missionary and links up with his past.
