After his mother dies, Bob’s father raises him and his older sister. Speaking Cherokee at home, he struggles in school. Tribal superstitions rule. His dad remarries, a woman who takes them to church and teaches responsibility; then she dies. His dad drinks; Bob sneaks alcohol and steals, feeling shame. Finally, he graduates, goes to vocational technical school but drops out. His father dies of a heart attack in Bob’s arms, and he rages at God. Drunk and homeless, he stays here and there. A man gives him a tract; he goes to church. The pastor leads him to Christ. He serves as youth pastor and meets Charlene. They marry & he goes to Bible college. They are still serving as missionaries on a reservation in Washington.
