His harsh dad causes Jay’s heart to harden. At ten he begins using alcohol and drugs. He has a bad motorcycle accident at thirteen, but rides motocross and does well. A friend’s drug overdose causes him to quit school at sixteen and run away to Florida. Life from then on is downhill. He steals, gets in trouble and goes home. He marries, has a son and they split. He goes berserk and trashes his mother’s house. He lives with Joan, but is involved in the beating and rape of a girl, and is sentenced to prison. Joan stands by him, but after prison he continues to drink, and they marry but divorce. He lives with his brother and they make crystal meth, burning their trailer. More jail time where a chaplain leads him to Christ. He stumbles on parole, returns to prison where he commits to Christ. Now in jail ministry, remarried to Joan.
