When he is seven, Sidney’s parents have a bitter, contested divorce and he is left confused and angry. They live with grandparents. He rebels against church and family, smokes pot and cuts school. Expelled at sixteen, he works as a plumber by day, taunts the police at night. At nineteen he brawls with seven deputies and goes to jail, but is put on parole. He gets hooked on cocaine, steals and can’t hold a job. Tries rehab and fails. Finally, he lives with his mother in Georgia. A man at work reads the Bible to him. Sidney goes to church and prays for salvation. Now married and a step-grandfather.
